Corban Deals Knights Home Loss

Box Score

PORTLAND, Ore. Corban took advantage of a big rebounding edge and poor shooting from Warner Pacific to send the Knights to a 60-54 home loss tonight in CCC play.

The Warriors (11-16, 6-9 CCC) muscled their way to a 46-31 advantage over WP on the boards. Meanwhile, the Knights (14-9, 9-5 CCC) managed just 2 of 14 shooting from three point range, and 10-21 from the free throw line.

With the Knights struggling to score early, Corban built a 14 point lead (22-8) at the 9:23 mark in the first half. WP cut the lead to six on several occasions and went in to the half time break with an eight point deficit.

The hosts found their range at times in the second half and slowly chipped away at the Warrior lead, finally gaining it (46-45) at the 8:01 mark on a Kelsey Mattsen jump shot. The lead would change hands three more times down the stretch, though Corban wrested it back (53-52) for good with 3:42 to play on two Tess Bennett free throws.

From that point, WPC could only muster a Mattsen lay in, while Corban hit 5 of 5 attempts from the line to seal the win.

Katie Steigelman led Corban with 22 points and 8 rebounds. Bennett added 14 points, along with Emily Tsugawa’s 8 points and 5 assists.

Warner Pacific was led by Kristina Schumacher with 13 points, while Mattsen had 11.
