PORTLAND, Ore. – In a windy and rainy Cascade Collegiate Conference match, the Multnomah University men's soccer team fell to the neighboring Warner Pacific Knights 8-0 on Saturday night at Portland Adventist Academy.
The Knights improved to 7-5-1 overall, 5-2-1 in conference, scoring four goals in each half over the Lions (0-11, 0-8 CCC).
How it Happened: It didn't take too long for the Knights to find the back of the net as Warner's
Mario Guizar earned the first goal of the game from 16-yards off a deflection just over 10 minutes into the period. MU's Austin McKee tried to answer back minutes later with a shot that forced Knights' keeper
Joe White to make a save.
WPC improved their advantage, scoring two consecutive goals in the 17
th minute to take a commanding lead. Trying to cut into the deficit, Michael Kochis and Josh Gulliford each got off a shot with White coming up with another save.
The final goal of the first half came in the 31
st minute when
Cesar Esquivel notched a goal, getting just passed the keeper. The Lions had one more attempt in the opening period when White tallied his third save after a shot by MU's Juan Candido.
In the second half WPC scored in a wave - three goals came within five minutes of each other as the final score came in the 79
th minute.
By the Numbers: For the Lions, Kochis tallied two shots, both of which ended in saves while keeper Manny Guillermo totaled 17 saves for the second consecutive night.
As for the Knights, eight different players scored a goal while Esquivel led the way with eight shots.
